Gouache  (pronounced ˈgwäsh ) is derived from the Italian guzzo. Gouache is a special type of paint which is water based. Pigment is suspended in the water and this style of paint has been around since the 14th century! The particles are larger than watercolour and the ratio of pigment to water also higher. Additionally, inert, white pigment like chalk is also present. This creates a heavier, more opaque paint with greater reflective qualities.
